Elegant State Room Wedding

I first met this AMAZING couple when I captured their engagement session. While Katie and Ben aren’t from Boston, they both love the city as it is where their love story started. They wanted their engagement session to reflect their love for the city and celebrate the place where they fell in love. They are both big Red Sox fans, and baseball is in Ben’s blood, as he played college ball and his dad also played professionally. Fenway Park was the perfect location as it spoke to their personalities, incorporated their love story, and had a casual but romantic vibe since it is the heart of the city. Their Fenway Park Engagement session is one of my favorite Boston Engagements to date; however, that is just part of their story. Now these two are happily married and their elegant State Room Wedding was a dream.

Their Story

Katie and Ben met at the start of COVID, however, as we all remember the world was on lockdown, which made going on dates difficult! They used this time to really get to know each other before their first real date in May 2020 by talking every single day. Their first date was the result of a friendly competition in “Words with Friends” that Ben won. His prize: a date with Katie! They both agree that the wait for that first date was worth it, because after, nothing else mattered and the rest was history. They’ve been happily together ever since!

Ben proposed on New Year’s Eve in December 2022. Katie thought they were there with Ben’s family to celebrate the start of the new year together, but little did she know, he had an entirely different plan. He set up a private horse and carriage ride for the two of them where he proposed. Ben made the evening event more special by arranging for Katie’s parents to arrive from Maryland right after the proposal. Katie recalls how perfect the entire evening was and how much she loved having that special moment to themselves, but then celebrating with family after.

Katie and Ben’s Wedding Weekend

I can’t even begin to explain what a joy it has been to watch Katie and Ben’s love story unfold. This couple is so sweet and full of love, and it is truly heartwarming to be around love like theirs. I had the honor of also photographing the rehearsal dinner the night before, which I love doing as it allows me a chance to get to know the family and guests better! It makes the wedding day even better, especially when the family and guests are as warm and welcoming as Katie and Ben’s.

Getting Ready

Katie is so full of life – you can’t help but smile when you around her! She got ready with her bridesmaids, who looked stunning in their chic, blue dresses in varying styles. The bouquets were gorgeous with the perfect pop of pink, which was a nice addition to the color palette of this elegant winter wedding.

The soon-to-be newlyweds shared their first look on the balcony of the Canopy by Hilton against the backdrop of the Boston skyline. After taking some time to savor the moment, the couple moved to the iconic Fan Pier Park for portraits. This is such a stunning location for photos that combines the beauty of the water and the breathtaking views of the city. As we were capturing their wedding portraits, it started snowing while the sun was still shining! It was MAGICAL and created such a beautiful scene.

After wedding portraits, the couple and their wedding party made their way to the Saint Leonard’s Church for the wedding ceremony. After exchanging the vows, the new Mr. & Mrs. headed to the stunning State Room: A Longwood Venue for their reception surrounded by their loved ones. The State Room is one of my favorite Boston venues. The epic views of downtown and the city skyline make it an ideal venue for anyone who loves Boston, like Katie and Ben.

Before dinner, the groom made an incredible speech to welcome everyone. In his speech, Ben said that Katie was his passion in life, which as you can imagine, made everyone tear up. It was such a beautiful moment and was a perfect example of what their wedding weekend was like – so full of genuine love, joy, and warmth.

The amazing wedding planner, Jessica Hennessey Weddings, did such an incredible job making their wedding vision come to life. Elegant and classic black and white décor, was accented by vibrant, magenta flowers that adorned every table, creating an enchanting atmosphere. Katie was moved to tears as she entered the space, overcome with joy and emotion. As the sun faded and night fell, the dance floor opened up and everyone joined in the celebration under the twinkling lights hanging from the ceiling and the city lights shining in from the city beyond.

Katie and Ben’s elegant wedding was perfect in every way and included many laughs, and an equal amount of happy tears. I truly felt like I was a part of their family, and it is a night I won’t forget. Katie and Ben, it was an honor and privilege to be a part of your wedding weekend.
