Whitney and Curtis’ timeless family heirloom focused wedding was a beautiful celebration that honored the past while celebrating the future. Their intimate, heirloom wedding was captured by my amazing SBP Boutique Associate team. The day unfolded at Whitney’s grandma’s house in Ipswich. It is a gorgeous location, overlooking the bay. Having the wedding in her grandmother’s home meant so much to her as she has countless memories tied to that house, from having cookouts on the deck, taking trips out to the sandbar on the boat, swimming on the shoreline to just enjoying the views. Not to mention, Whitney’s grandparents were also married here in their home. This beautiful family home also holds sentimental value as Whitney’s grandfather built the house for him and Whitney’s grandmother to spend the rest of their lives together.
Whitney and Curtis were also married by the same man, Bruce, who performed her grandparents’ ceremony. The room where they readied was the same spot where Whitney, her mother, and grandmother got ready for her mother’s wedding back in 1999. There are many more heirlooms and pieces of family history that were beautifully woven into their wedding day. I love how their love story intertwines with the past, carrying on many family memories, and keeping those family members who have passed on, present.
Timeless Family Heirlooms
The bride was named after her great grandma, Whitney, and is grateful to have that connection to her. Whitney honored her great-grandma by presenting her grandmother and her two sisters special rosettes to wear during the wedding, which were salvaged from Whitney’s great grandmother’s wedding dress. Their heartfelt reaction when she gifted the rosettes was priceless. Tears filled the room and it was such a beautiful moment and sentiment. Whitney also used the same silk material to wrap her white flower bouquet.
Whitney pinned a small piece of blue flannel fabric to her bouquet from her grandpa Jack’s shirt, who passed away in 2015. This blue flannel was the same shirt he wore at her mother’s wedding. It was a beautiful tribute to her grandpa whom she was very close to.
Whitney’s veil featured a clip with several small fabric flowers that were actually details from her mother’s wedding dress. Family members gave Whitney all of the wedding jewelry she wore. One of her favorite pieces of jewelry were the crystal heart earrings, which were her mother’s, given to her by my great-grandfather when she was just a little girl. The bride wore a gold ring from her great-grandma Whitney’s engagement ring, which was passed down to the bride as a keepsake gift.
Curtis’ grandmother, Penny, gifted Whitney the classic and elegant pearls. Whitney’s bridesmaid, Amanda, had the other set of pearls gifted to her by Penny. They were so happy to wear the matching set of pearls during the ceremony and keep a piece of Curtis’ grandmother close by since she was unable to attend the wedding.
Timeless Wedding Details
After getting ready, Bruce married the couple during an intimate wedding ceremony of less than 20 people. Their ceremony was heartfelt, sentimental, and perfect in every way. Afterwards, we captured a few wedding portraits by the bay. The couple also shared a private last dance in the rain!
Their wedding cake was from one of their favorite places, Phat Cats in Amesbury. The real story is in the cake topper, which was Curtis’ grandparents. This small bride and groom cake topper was very worn and tattered from years of storage, but the history and sentiment it carried was the most important. A photo of Curtis’ grandparents on their wedding day next to their cake and topper was on display next to their cake. Whitney and Curtis wanted to ensure pieces of their family history and legacy were surrounding them on their wedding day, even though some are no longer with them.
Curtis and Whitney describe themselves as “people that value family bonds above all else in our lives”. When they first thought about their wedding day and what they wanted it to look like. They knew they wanted a small, intimate wedding that allowed them to enjoy their special day with the people they love. Their timeless, intimate wedding was one brimming over with love and joy. The closeness of this family and all the special connections and items thoughtfully woven into their day were beautiful. It is certainly a day no one in attendance will ever forget.
Timeless Family Heirloom Focused Wedding
Ultimately, a timeless family heirloom focused wedding like Whitney and Curtis’ is about celebrating the love and commitment between two people while also honoring the family’s history and legacy. Whitney and Curtis created a truly special and memorable occasion that will be cherished for years to come.
Whitney and Curtis, your wedding was a dream! To see all the thoughtful detail and heirlooms incorporated into your day was refreshing. I love that you not only celebrated your love for one another but also the love shared with your family.
